Palestinian officials in Gaza said 20 people were killed in fighting with Israel, including nine children
In response to rockets fired by Hamas during protests at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque complex, Israel's army said it launched airstrikes on Monday, killing a top Hamas leader.
“A volley of rockets was fired at the enemy in occupied Jerusalem in response to its crimes and aggression on the holy city and repression of its residents in Sheikh Jarrah and the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” a spokesperson for Hamas' military wing in Gaza, Al-Qassam Brigades, said.
Tensions on the Gaza Israel border have risen after recent violent clashes at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.
