Every year April 22nd we come together and support a movement called Earthday, to pledge support for environmental protection.
Theme of 2021 Earthday is "Restore Our Earth" which focuses on natural processes and emerging green technologies. On this Earthday 2021, we look at what the individuals and organizations have pledged to show their solidarity towards this movement.
Earth Day, is an international event to pledge support for environmental protection. On Earth day it reminds every citizen of their duties towards mother Earth and urges them to take any measure towards the protection of the environment.
The first Earth Day was in 1970, when 20 million people took to the streets to condemn environmental destruction. The 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill, as well as other problems like smog and poisoned waterways, sparked the event. Earth Day proved to be an integral part of environmental advocacy for the next half-century. On Earth Day 2016, the historic Paris Agreement was signed, bringing over 200 countries together to set a collective goal to minimize global greenhouse emissions.
International Mother Earth Day, according to the United Nations, is observed to remind us that the Earth and its habitats provide us with life and sustenance. This Day also honours a common duty, as stated in the 1992 Rio Declaration, to foster peace with nature and the Earth in order to ensure a just balance between present and future generations' economic, social, and environmental needs.
This day serves as an occasion to increase global consciousness of the issues facing the planet's well-being and all of the life it supports all over the world.
The Theme of Earthday 2021
Theme of Earthday 2021, according to earthday.org, is to focus on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems.
“In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation are the only ways to address climate change. It is up to each and every one of us to Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. We all need a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity,” it says.
